Proposed Change to Rights of Way between Goodnestone and Staple.

Kent County Council has issued three ‘Definitive Map Modification Orders’ relating to rights of way between Goodnestone and Staple.

These cover the following routes:

  • The route between Claypits and Staple Church, currently a footpath, which it is proposed will be redesignated as a Bridleway. Link to Kent County Council Modification Order.
  • The route from the junction of Saddlers Hill and Cave Lane as far as the bridleway to Crixhall Court. This is currently a bridleway and it is proposed this route is redesignated as a restricted byway. Link to Kent County Council Modification Order.
  • A new route between the end of the bridleway to Crixhall Court and Staple Road at Twitham Farm. This route is to be designated as a Restricted Byway for most of its length and a Byway Open to All Traffic for a short stretch near Twitham Farm. Link to Kent County Council Modification Order.

In each case, Kent County Council has a consultation that is open until 10th October 2022. If objections are received, the matters will be referred to the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for determination. Save Your Footpath poster

Some residents are very concerned that use of the Claypits to Staple path as a bridleway will mean that the path ends up almost impassible for walkers. There is a petition in the village, a copy of which can be signed in the Fitzwalter Arms pub, in Claypits at the end of the footpath, or you can download a copy of the petition here.

Chillenden Road Closures 28th & 29th July.

The Street and Short Street in Chillenden will be closed to all through traffic on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th July. The Street will be closed between the junction with Station Road and the Griffin’s Head pub.

Access will be provided but these roads are closed to all through traffic and at times access may be via an alternative route.

This is for the installation of the new 20mph speed limit scheme.

The Annual Return and Notice of Public Rights for Goodnestone Parish Council have been published on this website for the financial year 2021/22.

Any person interested has the right to inspect relevant documents, to question the auditor about the accounting records or to make an objection between Friday 1st July and Sunday 31st July 2022.

Road Closure in Rowling 15th – 17th June

There will be a road closure in Rowling between Wednesday 15th and Friday 17th June between Sandwich Road an Rowling Road for carriageway repairs.

The road will be closed between Sandwich Road, near the junction that leads to Lower Rowling, and the ‘Y’ shaped junction close to Rowling House. In other words, the closed section will include the sharp bend near the ‘T’ junction in lower Rowling.

Nonington Farms walk and talk event

Nonington Farms will be hosting a farm walk and talk around the farm at Goodnestone. A great chance to learn about the regenerative agricultural practices going on, see first hand what environmental measures are being put in place and the impact it is having at Goodnestone.
