Good news for Goodnestone
In June 2018, KCC provided an update on the status of its broadband upgrade programme that included some good news for Goodnestone residents. In August, BT Openreach will be installing a new green cabinet at Bonnington, at the other end of the park from Goodnestone village. This will enable all of Goodnestone village and Claypits to benefit from Fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) broadband through the phone line. All major broadband providers use BT Openreach so it will be possible to use any broadband provider. If you currently get broadband through your phone line you should be able to order an upgrade from your existing provider once the service goes live.
Top speeds should be between around 25Mbps and 50Mbps in Goodnestone village and mid-teens to around 20 Mbps in Claypits. KCC did not say exactly when the service will be available, but it should not be too long after the installation of the cabinet. This will provide an alternative to the Vfast wireless service for those properties unable to get a signal or looking for a different choice of provider.
KCC and Openreach are still looking at options for Chillenden. Updates will be provided here as and when information is available from KCC. Representations have been made to KCC about Rowling where broadband through phone lines is very poor.
The installation at Bonnington will require road closures of the road from Bonnington to Ratling and in Bonnington at various times in late July and during parts of August. Check roadworks.org for more detail.
